Mining Finland strengthens its Board with three new members 

Mining Finland is pleased to announce the appointment of three distinguished professionals to its Board: Iina Vaajamo (Metso), Tuuli Kalliosalo (GTK), and Mikko Sopanen (Titanor)

These new members bring extensive expertise across mining, metallurgy, international business development, and strategic leadership, further strengthening Mining Finland’s mission to promote sustainable growth and global competitiveness in the Finnish mining sector. 

Iina Vaajamo – Metso

Iina Vaajamo serves as Director, Sales & Services Minerals Finland at Metso. She is responsible for customer relationships in Finland and the Baltics, as well as developing strategic customer solutions, driving business growth, and strengthening partnerships. 

With a strong technical and commercial background in the mining and metallurgical industries, Iina holds a Doctor of Science (Technology) degree from Aalto University. Her expertise in metallurgical thermodynamics and modeling brings valuable scientific insight to the Board’s work. 

In her board role, Iina brings strategic insight, strong technological expertise, and the ability to build collaboration across industry stakeholders. She is motivated by developing the competitiveness and sustainability of the Finnish mining sector, as well as promoting Finnish top-level expertise in international markets 

Tuuli Kalliosalo – Geological Survey of Finland (GTK)

Tuuli Kalliosalo works as International Business Development Manager at GTK. She focuses on strengthening GTK Mintec’s international presence, developing new business opportunities, and building long-term partnerships.

With 18 years of experience in business development and marketing, including leadership roles, Tuuli also has a strong background in customer operations and organizational development. She holds a Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Oulu. 

Mikko Sopanen – Titanor

Mikko Sopanen is the CEO and co-founder of Titanor Oy, a company developing a titanium mining project in Finland. 

He brings extensive financial leadership experience, having previously served as CFO at Endomines and Sotkamo Silver. Mikko is passionate about advancing the Finnish mining sector, particularly in improving its financing capabilities and supporting the international growth of Finnish expertise. 

Strengthening collaboration and global impact

Together, the new Board members bring a powerful combination of technical expertise, business acumen, and international perspective. Their appointment supports Mining Finland’s ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration across the industry and promote Finnish mining excellence globally. 

The Board will continue its work under the leadership of Chair Saija Luukkanen (University of Oulu), together with board members Mari Borén (Swerock), Eetu Pussinen (Comadev Oy), and Jouni Jääskeläinen (EPSE Oy).
