Meet the new board of Mining Finland

Last week was the annual meeting of Mining Finland association and as part of the meeting a new board to the association was chosen. The board is representing different member categories, which are micro and small companies; large companies; research centers and education; ensuring each interest group has a voice in the board.

Please find below brief introductions of the board members and how they are advancing the work of Mining Finland.

Riku Helander, Normet Group Oy

Riku Helander, Chairman of the MF Board,

Senior Vice President, Head of Services Business Line

Normet Group Oy

Riku is responsible for services business line at Normet. Normet services is present in over 30 countries and has over 600 individuals supporting  Normet customers in underground mining and tunnelling. 

With Mining Finland Riku sees three main targets

  1. To promote Finnish companies in global mining market – showing that member companies are the right partners for sustainable and responsible mining

  2. International co-operation to build network and open business opportunities for member companies

  3. Opportunity for member companies to learn from each other and build co-operation

Saija Luukkanen Oulu university Oulu Mining School

Saija Luukkanen, Vice Chairwoman of the MF Board, Professor in Mineral Processing and Head of Unit, Oulu Mining School of University of Oulu

Saija is professor in mineral processing since 2015 and head of unit Oulu Mining School of University of Oulu since 2018.  Before her academic career Saija has worked for industry and research organizations in Finland and abroad (France, Peru).

 Saija´s main objectives are to promote international student recruitment and student exchange, and strengthening and widening international research collaboration with industry and research organizations.

Ilpo Viskari

Ilpo Viskari, Solution Manager,

EPSE Oy

Ilpo is in charge of the Finnish customers at EPSE. Their patented products are specializing in the treatment of industrial hazardous process and waste water and mining waste waters containing soluble metals. Their solution enables more effective recycling of metals.

Ilpo aims to help Mining Finland with his long experience and support positive development of the mining industry in Finland.  

Jukka Koponen Sleipner

Jukka Koponen, CEO,

Sleipner Finland Oy

At Mining Finland, Jukka will help member companies to promote their products and services globally by utilizing all possible channels, help to establish new relationships and penetrate to new markets.

Lasse moilanen

Lasse Moilanen, CEO and shareholder,

BioSO4 Oy

Lasse is the CEO and shareholder at BioSO4 Oy with 18 years experience of successful domestic and international sales. His strongest fields of expertise are mining and water treatment chemicals. Lasse has alse been an active part in building profitable global distributor, sales and logistical networks. BioSO4 Oy from Kempele, Finland, is one quickest growing mining reagent distributors in Europe with 1,4 M€ turnover.

With Mining Finland Lasse sees three main targets

  1. To promote Finnish companies to get profitable business in global mining market

  2. To build cooperation and distributor channels to Finnish members.

  3. To help members with keeping focus on right size of new markets and right customers.

Asko Käpyaho, Head of Unit, Mineral Economy Solutions,

Geological Survey of Finland (GTK)

Asko holds a PhD in Geology (2007). His work history and scientific career covers broad field of geosciences, including mineral exploration, research on bedrock evolution and mineral systems as well as science and innovation management. He also has experience in the energy sector as he has been working field in the geological disposal of nuclear waste.
